On the 29th June 2006 speaking in his office in Berlin, Balozi Ali Karume, the outgoing Tanzanian Ambassador to Germany who also has multiple accreditation in 9 other countries told me in a recorded interview that he still intends to run for presidency in future elections as he is a Tanzanian who has a right to do so.
In the picture is Ambassador Karume with Said Yakubu.
''To be fair to the ambassador I think those who copied this story did wrongly suggested that he will run for the post in 2010. The Ambassador did not provide a time frame for his political ambition but it is ironic that he denied even meeting me!''
The interview was aired on the website www.habaritanzania.com who also published the written version of the I wrote which I made a point of sending to some of you, which subsequently was printed as lead story by Majira and Mtanzania back in Tanzania.
I saw the ambassador twice afterwards in his office in which he commended the story as ''very fair'' and he granted another exclusive interview which will be published by another english magazine here in london next month in which he reiterated the previous statement that he will run for the high office.
In a dramatic turn of events, the Ambassador has denied that to Majira newspaper that he never said so! His denial story is published below.
The original interview is still on the website www.habaritanzania.com and it is also available in audio format on the same web...
Has the Ambassador's arm been twisted?! or is it just the normal politics that when you are in the hot seat deny everything!
